AA Reducers

TripleA™ Acetaldehyde (AA) Scavenger
Acetaldehyde (AA) control is particularly important in mineral water packaging to control off-taste. ColorMatrix's industry leading TripleA™ scavenger technology provides a cost-effective, reliable solution for reducing AA formation in PET packaging by up to 80%.

Acetaldehyde Generation
Acetaldehyde is a naturally occurring chemical found in ripe fruit, wine and other foods. It forms as a result of thermal degradation during PET melt-processing. Once bottles are blown and filled, AA can migrate from the container walls into its contents conveying an undesirable taste and odour to the packaged product.

AA generation increases as temperature, pressure and shear in processing rises. Exposure to light and other environmental conditions can also increase migration.

Benefits of TripleA™
TripleA™ offers a number of important benefits including for brand owners:

  • reduced off-taste risks and preservation of brand reputation
  • assured adherence to the most stringent AA requirements, down to 1ppm in preforms

and for the converter:

  • accuracy in AA level control while maintaining production efficiency
  • control of deviations in AA levels caused by wear of dated machinery and tooling
  • reduced upper and average AA levels across all cavities
  • reduced handling complexity due to TripleA™'s universal application across a wide range of resins
  • TripleA™ facilitates the use of RPET and regrind in critical applications and provides excellent recyclability. It is certified by the Petcore bottle-to-bottle and bottle-to-fibre protocols.

The additive has no impact on either colour or clarity of containers and can be easily combined with ColorMatrix colour formulations.
